Agree with others that this is a good show, & kudos to Phil for assembling such a talented group of musicians & allowing the music to be released here for all of us to enjoy.
I'm a big Phil-fan--I appreciate what he's done to keep the music alive & I love hearing his bass turned up so loud in the mix. But for the life of me I can't understand why he insist on singing so many songs, especially when he's got such a talented singer / frontman on stage with him! Listen to "And We Bid You Goodnight"--it's laughably painful to listen to. If someone held a contest for "Worst rendition of a Grateful Dead song ever" surely this version would be in the running to win it. (And yes I realize this isn't a a Grateful Dead original)
Since an earlier reviewer asked, the fiddle player's name is Tim Carbone (from New Jersey-based jamband Railroad Earth). Phil gives band intros near end of second set; oddly I don't think he introduces the horn section, whom I think sounds great.

I'm looking for the CD covers for these free DSBDs from December 17,18,19 / 2004. If anybody knows where I can find them or has them and can e-mail me it would be much appreciated. And no they aren't at phillesh.net anymore.

thanks,

PLF is the GD the way it should have been. With lots of great musicians, carefully chosen for skill, lots of variety in songs and setlists, lots of great transitions, you know. (Except for Phil's voice which is admittedly atrocious)
anyway this show fucking kicks ass. The second set alone is just beautiful. A wonderful St. Stephen for the ages, great 11, Mind-Melting Dark Star, and the first set has some wonderful tunes, particularly The Dolphins > The Stranger. I love all of it.
The electric fiddle player, however he/she is, is amazing. So much love. :)

With one of Phil Lesh "Friends" in this case being Chris Robinson singing lead on most tracks makes this a great disc for me. Love hearing him sing Dead tunes

I was blessed enough to meet Phil at his book signing this last weekend, and he looked amazing, healthy, happy, and strong. That's how he sounds on this show- has he ever sung Box of Rain so well? Golden Road and the Stranger are also treats...excellent setlist, performance, and sound quality...if you only get 1 show from '04, get this one.
